CEBIB Postgraduates scoop two top awards at the 5th NIW Summit Research Innovation Poster Competition 2019

Two CEBIB postgraduates, Mr. Accadius Lunayo, and Ms. Temitope Arinola won the 1st and 2nd prize respectively for their top-ranked research innovation poster presentations during the 5th Nairobi Innovation Week (NIW) held from 10th to 14th June 2019 at the main campus, University of Nairobi. Mr. Isaac Nyangena from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology won the 3rd prize.

The Nairobi Innovation Summit Research Innovation Poster Competition was incorporated into the NIW to provide a platform for innovative postgraduates, post-doc fellows, and researchers to showcase their research to a global audience. Research originality, a focus on innovation among other criteria were used by the panel of jury to select the best three (3) presentations.

Mr. Accadius Lunayo (Kenya), a MSc Bioinformatics student and a Swiss Sub-Sahara Business Innovation Initiative (SABII) awardee, presented his postgraduate research in a poster titled ‘Computational 3D Structure Modeling of 18S Ribosomal RNA of the Zoonotic Parasite Cryptosporidium parvum for Drug Targeting’.

Ms. Temitope Arinola (Nigeria), a Ph.D. Biotechnology student and a Research Fellow at International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), presented her Ph.D. research titled ‘Developing plantain for resistance to banana aphids by RNA interference.
