PHD in Bioinformatics

  1. Genetic Diversity, Genomic Distribution and Distribution of CCR5-Delta32 Resistance Allele in Highly Populated Countries of South America, Africa, Former Soviet Union and Asia. Presenter: ONGADI Beatrice Atieno.

 

PhD in Biotechnology

  1. Establishment of a Genome Editing Tool for Yam (Dioscorea spp.). Presenter: SYOMBUA Easter David.
  2. Molecular Epidemiology of Foot and Mouth Disease Virus Circulating in the African Buffalo and Cattle Population in Eastern Rwanda.

Presenter: UDAHEMUKA Jean Claude.

Five CEBIB students, Ms. Josephine Kimani (PhD), Mr. Fred Odhiambo (MSc), Mr. Wellington Odhiambo (MSc), Ms. Tania Bishola (MSc) and Ms. Lillian Mbaisi (MSc) participated in the Introduction to Bioinformatics Course (IBT 2017) held at the International Centre for Insect Physiology and Ecology (ICIPE). The annual course was organized by H3ABioNet, the Pan African Bioinformatics Network for H3Africa, across 27 sites in 12 African countries. The training will continue for period of 3 months with intensive biweekly contact sessions.

Centre for Biotechnology and Bioinformatics took part in this year’s University of Nairobi Open Day that took place at the Hyslop car park, Main Campus from 25th to 27th of May 2017.

The centre was represented by Mr. Collins Owino - Graduate Assistant, who show cased the active research activities at the centre. In line with the theme: Quality and Innovative Education to Sustain Industrial Growth, CEBIB exhibited two current research projects to the audience; one project looking at the production of hemostatic products from natural products and another project on malaria.

The event was facilitated by Ko Kwan Mor, Application Manager – Eppendorf Asia Pacific Sdn. Bhd in collaboration with Jitesh Shah, CEO – F&S Scientific Ltd (Kenya) was hosted at Southern Sun Mayfair (Nairobi) on Friday, May 26, 2017.
