CEBIB Electrophoresis and Protein Chemistry Lab

On July 8, 2016, CEBIB staff and students were trained on how to operate a newly acquired Veriti Thermal Cycler (96 X 0.2ml block) at CEBIB Electrophoresis and Proteins Chemistry Lab. The training was facilitated by Ms. Esther Kiragu, Field Application Specialist from Africa Biosystem Limited.

Some of the distinct features of the PCR machine with a faster processor includes;

  • The machine has six independent temperature blocks on which different annealing temperatures can be programmed and operated simultaneously.
  • A powerful, user-friendly and responsive user interface comprising of an enhanced color touch screen with the selectable programmes to guide the user.
  • The machine has several editable pre-installed PCR programmes which give the user options for customizing to suit the operator’s amplification conditions. The optional setups for Fast or Standard PCR methods provides the flexibility to shorten PCR cycling time.

The standard PCR machine is set to support research work conducted by students and staff based at CEBIB Labs. PCR machines are used for amplification of DNA generate to generate millions more copies in a short time.

The equipment was received through the support of the collaborating partner, KEMRI-Wellcome Trust.
